Why you can't make up your mind

The gallbladder as the key to clarity and courage

Quit your job or stay? Save the relationship or leave? Move or not? Say yes or no? You know you have to decide. But you can't.

You make lists of pros and cons. You ask everyone you know. You google at 2 o'clock in the morning. You procrastinate - again and again. Not because you lack information. But because something inside you is blocking you.

This endless circling. This fear of making the wrong choice. This paralysis, even though you KNOW that standing still is also a decision - just the worst one. TCM has a name for this: Gallbladder weakness.
And it has solutions.

The path is not created in front of you. It is created beneath you - with every step you take.

The path is not created in front of you. It is created beneath you - with every step you take.

💚 What the gallbladder really does

In TCM, the gallbladder is your Decision-making body.

It works together with the liver:

  1. The Liver sees possibilities. She plans, dreams, designs.
  2. The Gallbladder chooses. She says: „This. Now. Go.“

Without a gallbladder, the liver remains a dreamer with a thousand ideas and zero implementation.

What a strong gallbladder can do:

  • Making clear decisions - even without all the information
  • Standing by decisions - even when others doubt
  • Taking risks - calculated, not headless
  • „Saying “no" - without a guilty conscience
  • Take action - even if it is uncomfortable

Which shows a weak gallbladder:

  • Endless weighing up without result
  • Let others decide (partner, boss, parents)
  • Constantly questioning decisions - even retrospectively
  • Avoid conflicts at all costs
  • Postpone until life decides for you

⚠️ The test: How strong is your gallbladder?

Answer honestly:

  1. I need more than 5 minutes for small decisions (restaurant, movie)
  2. When making big decisions, I ask at least 3-4 other people
  3. After a decision, I often ask myself whether it was the right one
  4. I often say „yes“ even though I mean „no“
  5. I avoid confrontations, even if they are necessary
  6. I have been putting off at least one important decision for months
  7. I often feel torn between options
  8. I wait for „the right feeling“ before I act

Evaluation:
- 0-2 Yes: Your gallbladder is strong
- 3-5 Yes: Your gallbladder needs support
- 6-8 Yes: Your gallbladder is significantly weakened

🧠 Why your brain is sabotaging you

Science confirms the problem:

Decision fatigue: Studies show: The more
decisions you make during the day, the worse they become. Judges make milder judgments after the lunch break. CEOs make better decisions in the morning. Your brain has a limit.

Analysis paralysis: A famous experiment: people who had 24 types of jam to choose from bought LESS than people with 6 types. Too many options paralyze.

Loss aversion: Psychologically, a loss weighs twice as much as a gain of equal value. That's why every time you make a decision, you feel like you're losing something - because you're doing it. Every „yes“ is a „no“ to something else.

The default mode network: When you ruminate, a network is activated in your brain that sends your thoughts spinning in circles. The longer you ruminate, the deeper you dig yourself in - without any results.

The solution is not MORE thinking. The solution is to act differently.

🌿 The 5 pillars for clear decisions

1. the 2-minute rule for small decisions

Small decisions eat up a lot of energy - if you let them.

The rule: Every decision that can be made in 2 minutes is made IMMEDIATELY. No procrastination. No „I'm still thinking about it.“

Examples:

  • Which restaurant? → First option that's okay. Done.
  • Reply to this email? → Yes or No. Now.
  • What to wear? → The first thing that fits. Out.

Why it works: You save decision-making energy for what really counts.

As of today: No small decision takes longer than 2 minutes.

2. the 10-10-10 method for big decisions

You often lack perspective when making important decisions. This method gives it to you.

The three questions:

  • How will I be 10 minutes feel when I make that decision?
  • As in 10 months?
  • As in 10 years?

Example - Quit your job:

  • 10 minutes: Panic, fear, „What have I done?“
  • 10 months: relief, new job, fresh energy
  • 10 years: „Best decision of my life“

Write it down. Perspective changes everything.

For the next big decision: Play through 10-10-10. Written.

3. body tuning - your gut doesn't lie

Your mind can argue endlessly. Your body cannot.

The exercise:

  • Sit down quietly, close your eyes
  • Imagine you have chosen option A. The decision is made.
  • Feel for 30 seconds: What is your body doing?
  • Chest wide or tight? Stomach relaxed or tense? Shoulders loose or hunched?
  • Then the same with option B

The option that allows your body to opens, is usually correct.

The coin toss trick:

  • Flip a coin (heads = A, tails = B)
  • Look what's falling
  • Observe: Are you relieved or disappointed?
  • The reaction shows you what you really want

Try it out today: For an upcoming decision.

4. the deadline method - pressure creates clarity

A decision without a deadline is endless brooding.

This is how it works:

  • Set a specific deadline: „I will decide by Friday, 6 p.m.“
  • Write them down. Tell them to someone.
  • When the deadline comes: Decide. Period.
  • After that: 48-hour decision diet. No more thinking about it.

Why it works: Your brain works better under time pressure. Parkinson's Law: A task extends to the time you give it. If you give it forever - it takes forever.

Now: What decision are you putting off? Set a deadline. Specifically.

5. nourish the gallbladder - Bitter brings clarity

Decisiveness is not just mental - it is physical.

Bitter and sour strengthen the gallbladder:

Install daily:

  • In the morning: Warm water with lemon (on an empty stomach)
  • Lunch: Bitter salad as a starter (radicchio, chicory, rocket)
  • Before eating: 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in water
  • Regularly: artichokes (fresh, as juice or capsules)

Avoid:

  • Fatty, fried foods (overloads the gallbladder)
  • Heavy meal in the evening
  • Too much alcohol

📣 Insider tip: A „bitter herb shot“ before important decisions -
Swedish bitters or artichoke juice. Wait 15 minutes. Then decide.

This week: Lemon water every morning. Something bitter every lunchtime.

💫 The inconvenient truth

Here is what nobody says:

There is no right decision.

There are only decisions that you stand by - and decisions that you don't stand by.

People who are „good decision-makers“ do not make better decisions. They stand by their decisions and therefore make the right ones.

The decision you don't make is also a decision. It means standing still. It means: others decide for me. It means: I give up my power.

And that is the worst decision of all.

The gallbladder does not ask: „What's right?“
She asks: „What are you doing NOW?“

The path is not created in front of you.
It is created beneath you - with every step.

So, what decision have you been putting off for weeks?

Meet them.
This week.
And then: stand by it.
