Detoxify your liver in spring

How to support your body properly now

It's still cold outside. Winter is holding firm. But your body?
He has felt it for a long time. Something wants to come loose.

Maybe you notice it: A tiredness that has no reason. A pressure behind your temples. An irritability that comes out of nowhere. Skin that becomes blemished. Sleep that doesn't recover.

It's not your imagination. It's your body wanting to tidy up - even before spring arrives. Your liver has announced a major clean-out.
The only question is: do you help her - or do you hold on?

What you don't let go of won't let you go.

What you don't let go of won't let you go.

🧹 Why now? The liver and spring

In TCM, spring is part of the Wooden element. And the wooden element is part of the Liver.

The liver is responsible for:

  • The free flow of Qi throughout the body
  • Detoxification (also from a Western perspective)
  • Emotions - especially anger and frustration
  • The eyes, tendons and nails
  • The menstrual cycle

In winter, the liver works in the background. It stores, filters and waits. In spring, it comes to the fore. It wants to clean, move, free.

If you help her now, she will reward you:

  • More energy
  • Clearer head
  • Better skin
  • More stable mood
  • Easier digestion

If you ignore her, she'll show you:

  • Spring fatigue
  • Headaches, especially at the temples
  • Irritability, frustration
  • Skin problems, allergies
  • Digestive problems, flatulence

The good news:
You don't need an extreme detox.
No juice cure.
No fasting to exhaustion.

You need: Smart support.

⚠️ What „detox“ really means in TCM

Forget everything the wellness industry has told you about detox.

TCM is not about „detoxifying“ the body like a dirty machine.

The point is:

  • Release stagnation (Qi flow)
  • to expel heat (liver fire)
  • Strengthen the center (spleen)
  • Drain excess (moisture, mucus)

The goal is not emptiness - but River.

And you won't achieve this through starvation or green juices alone. But through:
The right foods, exercise, acupressure - and less of what
blocked.

🧠 The western bridge: What the liver really does

From a Western perspective, the liver is the largest metabolic organ:

  • It filters 1.5 liters of blood per minute every day
  • It breaks down hormones, medication and alcohol
  • It produces bile for the digestion of fat
  • It stores vitamins, iron and glycogen
  • It regulates blood sugar

After the winter - with heavier food, less exercise, more alcohol - the liver is often overloaded.

The symptoms:

  • Tiredness after eating
  • Flatulence, especially after fatty foods
  • Nausea in the morning
  • Poor sleep between 1 and 3 a.m. (liver time!)
  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Yellowish complexion

Two worlds. One realization:
The liver needs support in spring - not punishment.

🌱 The 5 pillars for spring cleaning the liver

1. green is your medicine

The color of the liver is green. In spring, eating green is not a recommendation - it's therapy.

Install daily:

  • Dandelion (THE liverwort - as a salad, tea or fresh juice)
  • Rocket, spinach, chard
  • Artichoke (stimulates the flow of bile)
  • Broccoli, Brussels sprouts (cruciferous vegetables support liver enzymes)
  • Fresh herbs: parsley, chives, coriander, mint
  • Sprouts and seedlings (pure bursting energy)

This is how it works practically:

  • Lunch: Half of a plate should be green
  • In the evening: steamed vegetables instead of raw vegetables (easy on the middle)
  • In the morning: Warm water with lemon or dandelion tea

📣 Insider tip: Dandelion tea from the root (from the pharmacy or health food store) - 1 teaspoon per cup, leave to infuse for 10 minutes. Tastes bitter, has a strong effect.
Every morning for 3 weeks.

2. sour and bitter - the liver duo

Every taste has a function in TCM:

  • Acid contracts, preserves, leads to the liver
  • Bitter drains, dries, cools heat

You need both in spring.

Install sour:

  • Lemon in warm water (in the morning)
  • Apple cider vinegar (1 teaspoon in water before eating)
  • Sauerkraut (unpasteurized, for intestines + liver)
  • Fermented vegetables

Install bitter:

  • Dandelion, chicory, radicchio
  • Artichoke (as a vegetable or juice)
  • Turmeric (anti-inflammatory, gallbladder stimulant)
  • Green tea (slightly bitter, cooling)

Avoid or reduce:

  • Alcohol (direct liver exposure)
  • Deep-fried and very fatty foods
  • Sugar in large quantities
  • Finished products with additives
  • Too much coffee (heats up the liver)

3. movement that opens the flow of Qi

The liver hates stagnation. Stagnation is its greatest enemy.

In spring she wants: Movement, stretching, flow.

Ideal:

  • Stretch for 10-15 minutes in the morning (especially your side body!)
  • Walks in nature - brisk, not strolling
  • Qi gong or yoga with twists
  • Cycling, swimming, dancing
  • Anything that gets you slightly out of breath

The liver stretch (daily):

  • Stand upright, feet hip-width apart
  • Raise your right arm above your head
  • Lean to the left
  • right flank stretches
  • Hold 5 deep breaths
  • Page change
  • 3x per page

→ Opens the liver meridian on the side of the body

📣 Insider tip: The shaking exercise - shake your whole body for 3 minutes (arms, legs, torso).
Looks silly, works immediately. Releases stagnation and gets the Qi flowing.

4. respect liver time

In TCM, every organ has its wedding. The liver: 1 to 3 a.m..

This is the time when the liver regenerates and detoxifies the most.

What that means:

  • Be in bed before 11 pm (gallbladder time: 11-1 pm)
  • No heavy meals after 7 p.m.
  • No alcohol in the evening
  • No screen light after 9 pm (eyes = liver!)

If you wake up between 1 and 3 o'clock:

  • Classic sign of liver qi stagnation or liver heat
  • The tips in this article will help

📣 Insider tip: A warm foot bath before sleep (15 minutes) directs the energy downwards and relieves the liver.

5. let emotions flow

The liver not only stores blood - it also stores emotions. Above all: Anger, frustration, resentment.

What you swallow accumulates. What you suppress, blocks.

Practical:

  • Allow yourself anger - but give it a channel
  • Writing, speaking, moving
  • Say „no“ when you mean „no“
  • Avoid people who make you feel small
  • Create space for yourself alone

The question of the week: „What has been annoying me for weeks - and what does it need so that I can let it go?“

Write it down. Then: act or let go. But don't get stuck.

Not 7 days extreme - but 7 weeks smart.

This is TCM detox: Flow instead of withdrawal.

💫 The deeper message

In nature. In you.

Give her the space.
Give her the time.
